The Out-of-Bounds (OOB) Check realigns teams after a project has gone out of scope. It provides the team with a process to conduct a root cause analysis, evaluate alternatives, and recommend a remedy to decision makers. Setting boundary conditions, at the time of project approval, that reflect the critical elements of a project (typically cost, schedule, features, or quality), creates a “contract” between management and project teams. When teams cross those boundaries the OOB Check is the mechanism to realign them around new plan of record.
