Future Podcast Brainstorm

We aim to record a podcast each week, and for half of them to be good enough to publish! Notes for individual podcasts are in our 📝 Innovation in Product Document with supporting visuals in our 📊 Innovation in Product Slides.

A brainstorm list of future topics are here:

  • How we use the KJ methodology to document root causes and back them up with concrete examples.
  • What makes a good steering committee?
  • 7 pitfalls to avoid when hiring a consultant
  • How to set up a consulting engagement for success?
  • How do you know when it’s time to [hire a consultant | start a change management initiative?]
  • What to look for when hiring a [consultant | product coach]? E.g. what questions to ask?
  • What makes a good seed-round pitch deck? And some pitfalls to avoid?
  • How to structure your product roadmap?
  • What we’ve learned from using AI to code. What’s the difference between vibe coding and a real app?

Inspirations

Innovation in Product pulls from a few inspirations

  • “The Engines of Our Ingenuity” (episode list) has a 3-5-minute segment that highlights one invention or inventor and has tons of interesting anecdotes about who they were, how they came up with their idea, what societal factors led to it, or how it’s affected the broader world.
    • Thematically this is what I’d like to explore, focused on product. Innovation can come from so many places, and has so many impacts.
    • Format-wise, this is more highly scripted than I’d like and thus want other inspirations…
  • “Star Talk” has a dual-host format with episodes ranging from ~7 to ~70 minutes. In particular their Knowledge Drops explore a singular topic.
  • Pivot, with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway has ~60 minute episodes (fairly consistent) that explore tech and business. News analysis, sharp commentary, and personal banter. Incorporates personal commentary, hot takes, listener questions, and predictions. Wins and fails of the week.

Audience

In terms of audience, we’re looking for startup CEOs, product leaders, and change makers / innovators in larger companies. People who I would love to coach, and who might hire TCGen to help them lead a change / innovation project within their company.
